Forwarding A Domain Name

To "forward" a Domain Name to a website, you must own that Domain Name. (If you do not own the Domain Name, click here for instructions on how to purchase one.) You can forward a Domain Name to a website from most registrars, but the example shown below illustrates the process within www.GoDaddy.com. Most registrar processes work similar to this one.

The first step is finding a list of your Domain Names. Within GoDaddy, you must log in and then select "Domain Management" by hovering over the "Domains" tab in the upper left and then clicking on "Domain Management" in the lower right under the Management heading.

You will then be provided with a list of your Domain Names. Click in the box to the left of the Domain Name you want to forward and wait for the row of icons above the list of your Domain Names to become enabled (light up). Hover over the Forward button and click "Forward Domain."

In a separate browser session, go to the actual website to which you want to forward you Domain Name to. Copy the full website address (URL) and then return to your GoDaddy browser session and paste the website address into the Forward text block. Note the Forward text block is proceeded by the "http://" symbol so you should delete that portion of the address so it is not repeated. Click the OK button. Typically, it takes overnight for the forwarding to take effect. You can test the forwarding the next morning by entering your Domain Name into a browser and see if you are automatically forwarded to the desired website.
